Tracking rounds of rain and potential severe storms
TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy with the first wave of rain exiting before midnight. Mostly cloudy and breezy with more rain moving in before daybreak.
TOMORROW: Showers and storms with heavy rain possible in the morning. Isolated strong storms possible in the afternoon. Breezy with highs in the lower 70s.
EXTENDED: One wave of showers and storms continues to move through this evening, pushing to the southeast by around 10:00 p.m. We'll have a lull in activity before another round moves in before sunrise along a warm front that slowly lifts north across Mid-Missouri. Heavy rain and thunderstorms stick around through at least midday, if not a little longer. The severe threat with this round will be low, but small hail will be possible. A few isolated severe storms could pop up by late afternoon or evening, but the highest threat looks centered across northwest Missouri near the triple point/low pressure center. We'll be dry to start out Saturday, but temperatures rapidly ramp up with highs in the lower 80s. Severe storms are expected across the Plains during the day, moving into Mid-Missouri as a complex with strong winds and heavy rain likely after 9 or 10:00 p.m. from the west. Those storms will carry a severe threat through the overnight hours, and there could be a few lingering showers in the morning. 60 mph winds and flooding will be the main concerns. The atmosphere could recover again to bring yet another round of scattered severe storms by late afternoon into the evening. Those could bring the potential of 1" hail, 60 mph winds, a few tornadoes, and heavy downpours. Rainfall totals for the span of 3 days will be in the 2-4" range.
