Tracking a few showers on Tuesday, late week rounds of storms

THIS AFTERNOON: Mostly sunny with a few clouds filtering in. Highs in the upper 60s to near 70.

TONIGHT: Increasing clouds with near 50. Showers moving in to areas north of Highway 36 by daybreak.

EXTENDED: Clouds begin moving in tonight ahead of a cold front that will bring a chance for light showers on Tuesday. Light rain moves into Columbia and Jefferson City by around midday, but rain amounts will generally be under 0.25". Temperatures remain mild in the upper 60s to around 70 through Thursday before rounds of showers and storms move in between Thursday night and the weekend. A strong storm system moves into the region on Friday, bringing potentially severe thunderstorms by late afternoon or evening. Upper high pressure begins to build for the weekend, especially on Saturday as highs reach the mid-80s. Another round of storms moves in sometime between Sunday afternoon and evening, and some of those could also be on the stronger side as instability will be plentiful. Late week and weekend rain totals could add up to 2-4", which may give the threat of local rivers rising but also help put a significant dent in the ongoing drought.
