Tracking Easter thunderstorm chances

TODAY: Friday is warm and partly cloudy, with winds breezy at times from the southwest. Winds sustained near 20 mph will gust to 30+ mph and climb temperatures into the mid-70s despite some added clouds.

TONIGHT: We'll stay warm overnight, ahead of a weak cold front. Some light showers will be possible ahead of and possibly along the front, but it's likely that we're mostly dry.

EXTENDED: The boundary stalls somewhere between I-70 and I-44 by Saturday, keeping clouds around, and a sharp temperature gradient from north to south. Highs will range from 60s to 70s across the region, with partly to mostly cloudy skies. Even with the boundary here, we should stay dry until low level winds from the south pick up overnight, washing in moisture from the south. This should trigger chances for showers and thunderstorms Saturday night into Sunday morning. From there, things largely depend on the location of the boundary. Sunday might see a lull in precipitation during the day with a weaker low level wind, but chances for rain stick with us through the day. Thunderstorms may be more likely again in the evening, both along and south of the front. Sunday is warm, but still a wide spread in temperatures is likely with a range from 60 to near 80 possible. This boundary lifts north as a warm front on Monday, with an area of low pressure moving in along the boundary from the west. This sets us up for a better chance for storms on Monday, and possibly severe thunderstorms. Potential for all types of severe weather stick in the forecast for Monday. Monday is possibly just as warm, depending on timing and location of rain. We'll be cooler behind this system on Tuesday. 50s return Tuesday and Wednesday. Showers linger Tuesday, but sun returns Wednesday and Thursday.
