Tracking scattered storms tonight, severe risk possible Wednesday and Thursday

TONIGHT: Isolated to scattered showers and storms after sunset. A few could bring heavy downpours and small hail.

TOMORROW: Mostly sunny and breezy with highs in the upper 70s. Scattered storms develop by early evening. Some could be strong with large hail and gusty winds up to 50-60 mph.

EXTENDED: A low pressure system out to our west could trigger a few showers and storms after sunset tonight, all dependent on if we break through a "cap" of warmer air that could prevent storm growth. If storms do form, it would likely along and north of the Missouri River by 7PM or so. The severe threat will be low, but a few storms could produce small hail through about midnight-1AM as storms exit east. Tomorrow, we'll be warm and windy with highs in the upper 70s to around 80 for most of the day. A warm front lifting north through Mid-Missouri during the day could trigger scattered showers and storms after around 7-8PM and push north through the night, exiting our viewing area north of Highway 36 by about midnight or so. Those storms could produce up to 1-1.5" hail and isolated 60 mph wind gusts. Another warm day is expected on Thursday as highs reach the upper 70s to near 80 ahead of a cold front that approaches by late afternoon. Storms could begin to develop by late afternoon and move east ahead of the front through the evening. All hazards are possible, with 1.5" to 2" hail, 60 mph winds, and a low tornado threat. The potential for storms likely moves east of Mid-MO by 10-11 PM. It's partly cloudy and cooler with highs in the upper 50s on Friday behind the front. Temperatures reach the lower 60s on Saturday before dropping into the low 50s with sunshine on Sunday. Next week is cooler than average to start with highs in the 40s on Monday.
