Tracking cooler temperatures and more rain

TODAY: Tuesday is cooler, with temperatures falling into the 40s this morning, behind last night's cold front. Storms will leave along the front, by sunrise. There likely won't be much of a sunrise, though, as clouds fill in behind the front, keeping temperatures in the low-to-mid 50s this afternoon.

TONIGHT: Temperatures fall into the 40s again tonight, with possible breaks in the clouds. Still, clouds generally remain in place through sunrise.

EXTENDED: Wednesday will finally see a breakup in the low deck of clouds that shrouds the region. We expect to keep partly cloudy skies, though, as some high clouds work in overhead. Temperatures on Wednesday will rebound to near 60, thanks in large part to better sunshine. More clouds return Wednesday night, ahead of showers returning by Thursday morning. Widespread rain move in as soon as sunrise for some, on Thursday. This rain will be light to moderate, with little thunder expected. Bands of showers will overspread the region, and linger into Friday, as an area of low pressure passes through. Rain totals from this event alone will range from a tenth of an inch to a half inch on a wide spread basis, with a relatively narrow band of up to two inches setting up near the low path, somewhere in mid-Missouri. This keeps highs on Thursday and Friday, near 60. We'll be cooler behind this system, despite more sunshine. We'll be bright into the weekend, with highs in the 50s. A return to the 60s looks likely next week.
