Tracking a wet and dreary week with mild temperatures

TODAY: Rain persists this morning, until leaving the region shortly after 7 a.m. Rain will be gone by 9 a.m., but fog will linger, and possibly drizzle. Either way, it will be a dreary and damp day, with low visibilites lasting into the afternoon. With this, temperatures will struggle to warm again. Expect a high in the low 40s.

TONIGHT: Fog may linger in patches across the region tonight, but rain holds off until Thursday.

EXTENDED: Starting in the upper 30s, Thursday is another mild day, with highs in the low 40s. Not much warming is likely, as rain returns just after sunrise. Rain will persist through midday, into the early afternoon, before wrapping up. Fog may once again be an issue overnight into Friday morning. Visibility should improve Friday, along with warming temperatures. Highs may reach upper 40s to end the work week, before more rain moves in on Saturday. An area of low pressure will move in from the south, bringing widespread rain with it, through midday. Then, cooler air wraps around on the back side, as rain comes to an end. Given this scenario, snow mixing in is possible, but anything more than a few flakes is unlikely, and we do not expect accumulations. What this will mean, though, is a cooler day with highs in the low 40s both Saturday and Sunday after rain stops. Then, a big pattern change is on the way, to push temperatures well above average next week. We'll have multiple days in the 50s, with 60s not completely out of the question.
