Tracking a bright Tuesday ahead of a mild Wednesday
TODAY: Tuesday is more continuation of dangerous cold, with temperatures starting subzero, and climbing only into the teens by the afternoon. Still, this is improvement, and will partner with sunny skies, adding to the warm feel. Still, we stay below freezing until Wednesday.
TONIGHT: Skies stay mostly clear tonight, and temperatures fall back into the single digits, but stay above zero.
EXTENDED: Arctic high pressure slides south of us on Tuesday, but as it pushes east, winds turn southerly. Not just this, but a low level jet pumps warm air into the region on Wednesday, driving temperatures back near freezing. This may be a conservative estimate given the set up, and some could wind up in the mid-30s or warmer. This will be a temporary thaw, as the low level jet itself will be a sign of a change on the way. An area of low pressure, tied to an upper level wave will move in on Thursday, bringing a chance for snow, but also a cool down behind it. While minor accumulations are likely where snow falls, we are issuing another ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day for the return of dangerous cold Friday and Saturday. Both days bring highs in the teens, with wind chills reaching subzero Friday morning, potentially through Saturday afternoon. Signs point to more warmth over the weekend into next week, where trends point to warmer than average temperatures.
