Tracking light snow through late evening, frigid night ahead

TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy with light snow before midnight. Accumulation up to 0.5". Lows falling to about -5, with wind chills around -20 degrees by sunrise.

TOMORROW: Mostly sunny and cold with highs in the low teens.

EXTENDED: Snow showers have developed in the Kansas City area and through much of west central Missouri, and will continue to track in our direction through the evening commute, exiting by around 10:00 p.m. I am expecting around 0.5" snow accumulation, but even light amounts could make local roads slick with temperatures falling to near zero as the sun goes down. Tomorrow morning will bring wind chills around -20 degrees for the start of the day with afternoon sunshine warming us to the low teens. Tuesday night is cold with lows around 5 degrees before we warm into the low 30s by Wednesday afternoon. Another front works through the region on Thursday, bringing a chance for some snow showers that could leave a dusting to 0.5" accumulation, and strong northwest winds by evening that will drop temperatures to a few degrees above zero. A Weather Alert Day will go into effect at midnight and last through Saturday morning as temperatures only make the low teens on Friday and drop below zero on Saturday morning. The weekend looks cold on Saturday with highs back near 30 on Sunday. We'll begin to climb back to near or above average next week with rain possible to start.
