Tracking a frigid morning, increasing rain chances for holiday travel

TONIGHT: Mostly clear and cold with lows in the upper teens to around 20. Patchy river valley fog possible.

TOMORROW: Mostly sunny to partly cloudy with strong wind gusts up to 25 mph. Warmer with highs in the mid-40s.

EXTENDED: Tonight will be the coldest in weeks with lows in the upper teens to around 20. With warmer air moving in, river valley fog will be possible overnight. Tomorrow is warmer as highs reach the mid-40s. Southwest upper wind flow sets in for the rest of the week, sending afternoon temperatures in the mid-upper 50s. This upper flow sends more moisture and multiple disturbances our way, particularly a stronger low pressure between Thursday and Friday night that will bring widespread rain through Friday afternoon. We could get a break from rain through the first half of Saturday, but a deep low pressure system slowly crawls across the Midwest through the holiday weekend, bringing rounds of rain and perhaps a few storms through Christmas Day. Rain amounts between Thursday and Monday could reach up to 1".
