Tracking a hot weekend and signs of relief ahead

TODAY: We will be warm today, with highs reaching near 90 under mostly sunny skies. Winds are turning more southerly this morning and will be sustained in the 5-10 mph range which will help drive our warmup.

TONIGHT: Temperatures remain warm overnight, keeping us in the mid-60s overnight. Skies will remain clear through sunrise.

EXTENDED: The main story remains temperatures for the majority of the forecast, as it's incredibly dry. A blocking pattern in the upper atmosphere keeps any chance for rain at bay, and keeps our warm air mass in place. With very dry soils and atmosphere in general, big warmups are expected each day, with temperatures expected on the warm side of what models tell us. Saturday will be another day in the 90s, but Sunday through next week, we'll catch a slight break from the heat, with 80s through Tuesday. Then we get a shot at some rain and cooler weather. Exactly how fall like we will feel with a cold front arriving Wednesday into Tuesday is unclear, but currently, it looks like we could be limited to low 80s on Wednesday, and drop into the 70s for highs on Thursday.
