Tracking extreme heat holding strong

This Afternoon: A Weather Alert Day is in effect for high temperatures nearing 100 degrees with the heat index once again soaring above 110.

Tonight: Lows fall to the upper 70s as skies remain partly cloudy with winds out of the southwest at 8-12 mph.

Extended: A Weather Alert Day has been extended through 8 pm Friday for one more day of excessive heat. A cold front arrives into the weekend, bringing isolated shower chances and welcome relief. Chances for showers and storms increase slightly into Sunday as highs only reach into the upper 70s before a cooler week of below-average highs next week.
