Tracking a sharp cooldown on the way to break a streak of dangerously hot days
TONIGHT: We're at the core of the heat this evening, but there is relief on the way. Our ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day extends through Friday. Expect skies to clear tonight, and temperatures to remain warm. We'll have a light south breeze overnight, and temperature will fall only into the upper 70s by sunrise.
TOMORROW: Wednesday will start warm and muggy, under mostly sunny skies, but high clouds arrive, adding clouds through the day. We may see enough to become mostly cloudy by the afternoon, but sunshine is likely for the first half of the day. Temperatures will be warmer on Wednesday, and dewpoints will be slightly lower. Overall, this yields a very similar heat index value Wednesday afternoon, in the 110-115 range.
EXTENDED: On Thursday, our feels like temperatures remain high, in the 105-110 range, under partly cloudy skies. Dewpoints will lower, which only allows temperatures to warm further, to near 100. This keeps us hot and humid. On Friday, a cold front will enter from the north, but any meaningful cool down will lag behind the front. This keeps most of us in the 100-105 heat index window again Friday afternoon. On Saturday, we'll finally receive some relief from Friday's front, as northerly winds bring in a totally different air mass. Expect highs in the 80s, with just enough humidity to make us feel like low 90s. A round of rain is possible with an upper level wave passing by late Saturday and early Sunday, so we'll keep a 10% chance of rain in the forecast for now, but otherwise the weekend looks dry. Things improve further on Sunday as we continue our cool down, dropping temps into the high 70s/low80s for highs. Cool air and dry weather sticks around into early next week.
