Tracking a dangerous heat wave lasting through late week

Today: A Weather Alert Day has been issued as the heat index could potentially climb to 115 degrees. The actual air temperature reaches 97 degrees with mostly sunny skies. Winds switch out of the northeast at 5-10 mph.

Tonight: Overnight lows cool to the upper 70s with mostly clear sky conditions. Winds remain out of the northwest at 4-8 mph.

Extended: Mid-Missouri remains in Weather Alert Days' lasting through Thursday until 7 PM for dangerous heat indices surpassing the 100 degree mark each day. Skies remain mostly sunny through Tuesday before becoming partly cloudy lasting into the weekend. Relief from the current heat looks to come Friday night as a cold front passes through leading to highs into the mid-80s beginning Saturday.
