Tracking a cool Friday before dangerous heat returns this weekend

Today: Afternoon highs increase into the lower 80s as skies remain mostly sunny. Winds switch from the northwest to the southwest by the second half of the afternoon at 5-10 mph.

Tonight: Overnight lows cool to the mid-60s with winds continuing out of the southwest at 5-10 mph. Skies remain mostly clear.

Extended: Saturday sees highs return into the lower 90s before a substantial warm-up nearing triple digits Sunday afternoon. A Weather Alert Day has been issued throughout Sunday as the heat index could reach up to 108 degrees. Monday through next Thursday sees highs sitting into the upper 90s with the heat index looking to reach up to the triple digit mark or just over each day. Conditions remain dry throughout the first half of next week.
