Insider Blog: High pressure system bringing intense heat through the weekend

Friday is tracking to be the last day of below average temperatures, as a high pressure system takes over Missouri in the weekend. This is similar to what we saw at the end of July with the heat dome that brought consecutive days of temperatures in the high 90s to low 100s. With this high pressure system building in intensity, temperatures will be making their way into the low 90s by Saturday, and the mid to high 90s by Sunday.

This high pressure system will also be encouraging the building of humidity through Mid-MO, which is why we'll be seeing heat index values increasing as well. By Saturday, I'm tracking a heat index in the mid to high 90s, and by Sunday I'm tracking heat index values that reach into the triple digits.

As next week rolls around, the heat dome is tracking to back off slightly, but still brings consistent temperatures in the mid 90s. These well above average temperatures are sticking around in the extended 6-10 day outlook as well. This also means we could see those heat index values in the high 90s to low 100s stick around well into next week.
