WEATHER INSIDER: How past and future rainfall is contributing to river levels and chances for floods

Over the past week, Mid-MO has seen substantial rainfall, with areas getting 7-9 inches. With these systems, plenty of flooding advisories and warnings took place, but we also saw drought conditions take a hit. With that, river levels are also looking a little more normal because of this much needed rainfall. But what does this mean with future rainfall?

As of now, Mid-Missouri will not be seeing the same amount of rainfall that we did last week, but will still be getting above average amounts for this time of the year. This will help our river conditions out by not letting them return to the levels they were once at, and continue the intense drought we've been observing this summer.

As for flooding, there will not be widespread chances for the next couple of weeks, just because rainfall chances do not look as heavy and consistent as they were last week. That doesn't mean flooding is out of the picture though. With rainfall chances on Wednesday, smaller rivers across Missouri could flood due to the inability to hold that water. Plus, with the already relatively saturated grounds, it won't take much for excessive runoff to occur, which could also lead to flooding.
