Tracking strong storms tonight and a round possible this weekend

TONIGHT: Today is an ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day. Storms will develop before 6 p.m. this evening, just East of Kansas City, and arrive in our western counties closer to 6 p.m. Storms will likely arrive near Marshall and Brunswick. Areas from here to Mexico, and south to Sedalia and Jefferson City, will have a chance at a tornado. Still, the greatest risk is for Damaging winds. Some storms may produce hail as well. A flood risk will also be possible here. Storms will also be possible further south from Jefferson City, but the risk for severe here may be more focused on damaging winds.

TOMORROW: Rain will largely wrap up by Saturday morning, leaving us muggy and mild. Temperatures will start near 70, and climb back to near 80 for highs under partly cloudy skies. Temperatures are a bit of a question as strong northwest flow behind these storms will be temporary, but may be enough to keep us cooler. Still, plan for upper 80s, and if you're near Warsaw, temperatures will likely be in the low 90s. Storms will be possible late Saturday night, but timing is uncertain. We are starting to a shift in timing of storms, later into Sunday morning. A limited severe risk may accompany storms, but a later shift will likely work against severe chances.

EXTENDED: Some strong storms may be possible early Sunday, with the heaviest rain, and best chance for severe west of Columbia and Jefferson City. Drier weather appears to settle in on Monday and Tuesday, but more active weather may return as soon as Tuesday night into Wednesday. Cooler temperatures settle in behind our storms on Sunday, much of next week will remain in the 80s.
