Hundreds remain without power as storms bring flash flooding to Mid-Missouri

COLUMBIA, Mo (KMIZ)

Hundreds of homes were without power and parts of Mid-Missouri were under flash flood warnings Thursday morning as storms continued to hammer the area.

Boone Electric Cooperative reported more than 300 members without power, while nearly 300 more Callaway Electric Co-op members were in the dark at about 7 a.m., according to the utilities' outage maps. Parts of Boone, Cole, Moniteau and Callaway counties were under a flash flood warning through 7:15 a.m.

Nearly 400 Ameren Missouri customers were in the dark near Prairie Home at that time. By 9 a.m. those outages appeared to have been restored but more were without power in the New Bloomfield area.

Jefferson City police also warned drivers of a downed utility line on Truman Boulevard between Ten Mile Drive and Schumate Chapel Road that was slowing traffic at about 9 a.m.

Rivers and creeks such as the Lamine River at Otterville and Hinkson Creek at Columbia were predicted to surge out of their banks for a second day.

Southern portions of Boone County were still dealing with storms.

There were reports of trees down and water over secondary roads in Moniteau County following a tornado warning Wednesday night. There were also reports of trees and lines down in the Doolittle area.

Cole County saw some flooding with water reported to be covering Loesh Road and Meadows ford crossing, and large hail in the area. This caused the Jefferson City Jaycees fair to cancel all of Wednesday evening's events.

A race down the Missouri River was postponed Wednesday because of the ongoing storms across the state.

Racers were called out of the water over concerns for safety. It's the first time the vent has been canceled mid-race, with teams being told to exit at the nearest boat ramp. Organizers of the race cited rising waters, debris and a lack of moonlight for canceling the race and said the combination made it too dangerous to kayak at night.
