Tracking a hot and mostly dry 4th of July

TONIGHT: Clouds have bubbled up this afternoon, and will dissipate with sunset tonight. Temperatures will remain warm overnight, with a light and variable breeze continuing through sunrise, where temperatures will drop into the low 70s and high 60s.

TOMORROW: Temperatures will warm a bit faster and further on Tuesday. Temperatures reach mid-to-high 90s by the afternoon, with heat index values near 100. Temps will cool into the 80s by 9 p.m. The 4th of July looks to be hot and mostly dry. Some isolated storms are likely to form in the afternoon, and carry into the early evening before dying with sunset. Of course, it has been very dry recently, so check with your local officials before lighting any fireworks this week.

EXTENDED: Overnight Tuesday into Wednesday, a cold front will drive storms in from the west. The first round of storms along the front will likely be dying upon arrival, lessening the severe threat, at least from round one. How long the front takes to push through, though, will have implications on where we may see redevelopment along the front become strong. Currently, Wednesday is a day to pay attention to in the forecast, with potential for strong storms. With that said, the chance for any severe weather, and meaningful rain for that matter, is relatively low as confidence in the timing of the front is low. Stick with the ABC17 Stormtrack Weather team for updates on this round of storms. Regardless of timing, the front will leave us cooler in its wake. Expect highs in the mid-80s on Thursday, with drier conditions. An active upper level pattern bringing daily disturbances and increased moisture, will leave daily rain chances in the forecast from Friday through Monday. Temperatures are likely to remain cool because of this, with highs in the 80s through the weekend.
