Tracking extreme heat again today, severe storms also possible
This Morning: There are two chances for strong to severe storms today, the first arriving midmorning in northern Missouri. Storms could bring high winds and hail, but our area is expected to mostly miss this first round. Conditions remain muggy as we warm to the 90s before noon.
This Afternoon: A Weather Alert Day is in effect Friday as temperatures rise once again to dangerous levels with the air temperature up to 100 degrees as the heat index reaches potentially up to 106. Redevelopment of storms is possible by mid to late afternoon as warmth and moisture in our region destabilize the atmosphere. The main impacts for both events look to be brief downpours, strong winds, and isolated hail.
Extended: Scattered rain continues into early Saturday, where more chances of storms await. A Weather Alert Day has been issued for Saturday afternoon lasting through Saturday night as strong to severe storms are expected with the primary impacts being strong winds up to 70 mph and hail up to 1" in diameter. Sunday sees scattered showers and storms below severe parameters lasting throughout the first half of the day.
