Tracking extreme heat and storms to close out the week

Today: A Weather Alert Day has been issued for Thursday as temperatures reach above 100 degrees, and the heat index soars up to 108 degrees. Isolated storms are possible in northern Missouri today, bringing a risk of severe hail and winds.

Tomorrow: Friday is another Weather Alert Day with nearly identical conditions to Thursday; the heat index again reaches above 105 degrees. Scattered storms are possible in the evening along a front draped across northern Missouri, bringing the same severe hazards as the day before.

Extended: Showers continue into early Saturday, and redevelopment of yet another round of severe storms is possible in the afternoon. This round of rainfall into the weekend is expected to be more widespread, cooling things down and bringing nearly an inch of rain to parts of the area. More on-and-off rain lasts into early next week, possibly for the holiday.
