Tracking a hot weekend with potential for severe storms

TONIGHT: It's a hot and dry evening the rest of the evening. Humidity has increased over yesterday, but heat index values are in check compared to their temperature counter parts. Expect 80s all the way through sunset and then some. We'll fall to near 70 by the sunrise hour on Saturday.

TOMORROW: Saturday is an ABC 17 Weather Alert Day. For the latest detailed forecast, click here. In summary, the confidence in storm development is rather low. Thanks to a "Cap" on the atmosphere, guidance is very hit an miss on whether or not storms develop during the afternoon on Saturday. Even with that uncertainty, the likelihood of something becoming severe if it DOES develop is relatively high with plenty of moisture, instability, and even a little bit of shear. Dynamics will shift through the evening, but chances for strong storms arise around noon, and last through about the midnight hour. In addition to the chance for severe weather, temperatures will climb into the mid-90s, with dewpoints reaching mid-to-upper 60s. Feels like temperatures, as a result, will climb to near 100 degrees.

EXTENDED: Sunday will be cooler and drier behind the cold front that pushes storms east overnight. Still, we only fall a few degrees with highs reaching near 90 by Sunday afternoon. The big benefit on Sunday will be dewpoints falling into the 50s, especially later in the day. Temperatures will remain near 90 through much of the week, with dewpoints in the 50s to start. Humidity will climb into midweek as rain chances grow. Through the weekend, rain totals are expected to remain less than a quarter inch, with amounts next week still uncertain.
