Tracking more hit-and-miss storms into a warm and humid weekend

TODAY: Storms in southwest Missouri will bring potential for morning rainfall locally. These storms are expected to spread into the region before sunrise near the Lake of the Ozarks, making it to Jefferson City and Columbia closer to 6 a.m. This activity will weaken, and overall rainfall totals are expected to be less than a tenth of an inch from the morning round, but expect lightning and thunder. This round of scattered rain leaves by mid-morning, but then a chance for isolated storms lingers into the early afternoon. Through this period, energy in the atmosphere is rather weak. This afternoon, energy will increase, but the lack of a "trigger" in the atmosphere, may render it mostly unused. That is, we may not have any storms to tap into that storm energy. If we see late afternoon storms, they will have severe potential, with hail and damaging winds being concerns. Get the latest details on Friday here. It's a warm day Friday, with temperatures reaching low-to-mid 80s.

TONIGHT: Overnight tonight, models are depicting a storm system in eastern Kansas. This weakening line of storms may move into the region after midnight, leaving us with a line of decaying showers and storms. This round likely is not severe, but may bring thunder and lightning.

EXTENDED: Starting with temperatures in the upper 60s, and some wet ground from overnight, Saturday will have a truly summer-like feel. Dewpoints will sit in the mid-60s for many, as we climb to near 90, meaning we may feel more like low 90s at times. Given a similar airmass to Friday, expect potential for storms to develop on Saturday, but understand that if they develop, they will likely be in an isolated manner in the afternoon, leaving plenty of dry time still. Severe weather looks unlikely on Saturday. Scattered rain and thunder returns on Sunday, as the low to our north collapses and gets pushed south. This may act as a focus for rain chances as it passes Sunday into Monday. Details on timing are still unclear, but this keeps rain chances in the forecast for Monday morning as well as a drop from the mid-to-upper 80s on Sunday, to the 70s on Monday. Expect a drier trend, and a cooler trend for early next week, with temperatures in the 70s and slim chances for rain.
