Tracking meager rain chances expected to bring little change to dry conditions

TODAY: Wednesday will be a continuation of dry and nearly seasonable weather, as we struggle to get in on the moisture sitting to our south. Clouds on the fringe of better rainfall to our south will be present overhead today, making us partly cloudy at times, but there's still enough sun to keep the sunglasses handy. Expect highs in the upper 60s, similar to Tuesday, with a light breeze from the east.

TONIGHT: These clouds are tied to low pressure in Arkansas, which will inch closer overnight. This brings increased cloud cover beginning around the dinner hour. Its unclear exactly how far north the clouds will reach, but it's likely that most of us are cloudy by daybreak. Some showers are possible near the Lake of the Ozarks overnight.

EXTENDED: Thursday morning, rain chances will spread farther north. Dry air will work against any precipitation overnight, but we'll slowly see rain become more efficient by sunrise. Scattered light showers are possible areawide, but chances, coverage, and amount of rainfall are all greater with southern extent. Simply put, the closer to the low pressure passing south of us that you are, the better your rain chances are. Highs are cooler on Thursday, with low 60s expected. The low exits to our east on Friday, allowing for drier conditions and even some sunshine. This allows a forecast high of upper 60s. We've been tracking an area of low pressure and a cold front for Friday night and Saturday for some time now, but it is looking more and more likely that this will bring with it only a slim chance for showers. Activity looks weak at best if we see any rain from this weakening front. The front looks to pass through early Saturday, but depending on how close the low lingers to our northeast, we may deal with some wrap around moisture. Still, rain chances are low on Saturday, just slightly higher than Friday. Overall, rainfall is wimpy at best for the week ahead, as sunshine returns for the first half of next week. Less than a half inch is expected over the next 7 days. Sunday starts in the low 60s behind Saturday's system, and we slowly climb into the upper 60s by Tuesday.
