Tracking a warm front that brings warmer air and chances for rain

TODAY: A warm front will lift through the region today, bringing warmth, and a chance at some showers and thunderstorms. Most will see a high in the low 70s south of the front. The front will also drive rain showers and thunderstorms from the lake area around early to mid-morning, to near I-70 by mid-to-late afternoon, and northward through through the dinner hour.

TONIGHT: We'll stay dry overnight after the showers exit, but clouds stick around keeping us mostly cloudy. Temperatures stay warm, in the 50s overnight.

EXTENDED: We'll find our selves in the warm sector of the approaching system on Wednesday, with the warm front to our north, and a cold front way out west. This leaves us warm and mostly dry on Wednesday, with a high near 80. Still, there is a small chance that storms to our north and west may spill over into our northwestern counties or that we may see a rogue pop up storm. Overall Wednesday looks mostly dry. Overnight Wednesday into Thursday, the cold front will arrive on our western border. Currently, it's expected to push east through the region on Thursday, instigating showers and storms along the way. Exactly how strong storms get in mid-Missouri is still a question, but they are anticipated to strengthen into strong to potentially severe storms as they leave to the south and east. Behind this system, cooler air will rush in and have us feeling chilly for the weekend. We'll be cloudy on Friday, with a slim chance for showers from another low moving along the front as it settles to our south. Friday keeps temperatures in the 60s, but a more progressive cooldown arrives Saturday where temps struggle to reach 50s under mostly cloudy skies. Overnight lows will prompt the frost question a couple of times through early next week. Monday brings us back into the 60s.
