Tracking warming temperatures fueling strong storms Tuesday
TODAY: Breezy again as winds shift out of the south; gusts could reach 30 mph. Highs jump to around 70 degrees with dry skies most of the day.
TONIGHT: Scattered showers and thunderstorms will move into our southern counties after sundown and through the rest of Mid-MO into early Monday. Lows will be much milder thanks to clouds as we hang on to the 50s.
EXTENDED: We're continuing to track an enhanced risk for severe storms across Mid-Missouri early this week. More scattered showers and storms are possible Monday and these will bring a low risk of hail. By early Tuesday, warm low level winds will likely put a cap on storms for the first part of the day. This sets up the potential for high instability to build ahead of a strong cold front in the evening. Storms will fire up in west Missouri as this front pushes through the cap, tapping into that abundant energy and likely becoming severe. All hazards are possible from hail and high winds and also tornadoes. The Storm Prediction Center currently highlights Mid-Missouri in a 3/5 risk for these storms. Non-storm winds will also be gusty up to 40 mph. Make sure to stay up to date and aware of the weather in your area by downloading our app, as we will be closely watching this severe weather potential and pushing out constant updates. As for the rest of the week, we are looking calm, with partly cloudy skies, but slightly cooler temperatures after the cold front Tuesday night moves through. Highs will be in the 50s and low 60s for the rest of the week.
