Tracking warmth that brings storms with severe potential ahead of a tranquil weekend

TODAY: A warm front is lifting through the region this morning, with warmer air following quickly behind it. We'll start with sunshine this morning, with more cloud cover arriving later this afternoon. With the clouds, comes scattered showers and storms. These arrive in our southwest counties, meaning the lake area around mid afternoon, so be mindful of lightning if you're planning on a lake day. A lake day may be nice for some, as temperatures are likely to reach near 70, especially near the Lake of the Ozarks.

TONIGHT: Clouds fill in overnight, and so do scattered showers and storms. Not a lot of rainfall is expected, but hit and miss activity remains through the morning. Temperatures hardly fall at all, with temperatures in the upper 50s through early Friday morning thanks to a stout south breeze.

EXTENDED: Severe storms are still in the forecast for our Weather Alert Day on Friday. For details, click here. Otherwise, it's a stormy day, with non-thunderstorm winds sustained around 20-30 mph, and gusting up to 50 mph. Temperatures on Friday will surge into the mid-to-upper 70s. Cooler air arrives behind the cold front on Saturday, leaving us with sunshine and highs in the 50s. Sunday looks pleasant, with sunshine and highs in the 70s. Storm chances return to start next week, with some strong storms possible on Tuesday. Temperatures stay warm through the middle of next week.
