Utility crews work to restore power to Mid-Missouri customers after overnight storms

COLUMBIA, MO. (KMIZ)

A road in Callaway County was closed before noon Monday as contractors replaced electric poles broken by heavy winds overnight.

The damage was part of what was left behind by the late-winter storm system that's been accompanied by spring-like temperatures. About 300 Callaway Electric Cooperative members were dark just before noon as crews blocked Old Highway 40 to make repairs.

Overnight storms caused damage and knocked out power in homes across the Mid-Missouri area.

Boone County Joint Communications sent a notification for a tree down on South Highway 163 at Whisenhunt Dive, closing one lane and causing traffic issues. BCJC asked the public to avoid the area.

Once crews arrived at the Whisenhunt Drive area around 6:30 a.m., just down the street from Pierpont General Store, road crews had already moved the down tree from the roadway.

Some Hallsville Ameren customers were also without power temporarily Monday morning. The overnight storms brought down a tree and partly broke a powerline in front of the Hallsville Intermediate School on Highway 124.

A vehicle was caught in the road due to the tree falling but didn't appear to be damaged.

Hallsville police blocked off Highway 124 in front of Hallsville Intermediate School for a little over two hours and reopened the road around 8 a.m.

Around 9 a.m. Ameren crews in the area told our ABC 17 News reporter on the scene that all customers in the area had their power restored and they anticipate getting the power line fully repaired by 1 p.m.

A wind advisory remained in effect for Mid-Missouri until 3 p.m. Clouds were expected to decrease with a high of near 60 degrees in Columbia.
