Tracking brutal cold today with light freezing drizzle possible
TODAY: Conditions will be drastically different than the start of the weekend with morning temperatures in the teens. Some folks in northeastern Missouri saw light ice accumulation overnight but no road impacts are expected Sunday. Highs today remain below freezing thanks to cloudy skies and wind chills will be in the teens through the afternoon. Low clouds could produce light freezing drizzle in a line from the Lake to Mexico and areas southeastward today.
TOMORROW: Ice impacts in southeast Missouri will be most worrisome for the Monday commute thanks to morning lows back in the teens. This will push road temperatures to below freezing so slick spots will be possible in areas that receive precipitation. Highs will still remain below freezing, though we see more sunshine to start the workweek.
EXTENDED: High pressure over the central Plains will work to keep conditions dry through nearly all of the workweek. We still have to watch a few systems that will traverse a more disturbed pattern to our south, but precip chances will generally remain south of I-44. This trend could hold all week, which helps conditions steadily recover to seasonal levels by next weekend.
