The ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather team is tracking a winter storm that could bring accumulating snow to much of the region, with heavy snow possible across southern and southeast Missouri between tonight and early Wednesday afternoon.
Tuesday evening update:
Low pressure is on track to pass just to our southeast tonight. Sitting just to the north of the low track, all of mid-Missouri continues to see snow chances. The most impactful accumulations will come with the best lift and moisture which will lie close to the low. Because of this, you'll see a trend of higher snow totals to the southeast. Precipitation will likely start off as cold rain moving in from south to north this afternoon, then transition to snow around or just before sunset as temperatures drop below freezing.
Rain will move into the Lake area between 6-8:00 p.m., near Jefferson City and Columbia between 8:00 and 10:00 p.m., and after 10:00 p.m. for areas north of I-70. Rain will change over to snow as temperatures drop to near the freezing mark, with snow expected for the entire region by or before midnight.
Amounts may shift a bit as the system gets closer, but a range between 1-3" is expected for areas along and north of I-70, 2-4" for areas south of I-70 including Columbia and Jefferson City, with 4-7"" or higher amounts near the Lake of the Ozarks and along and south of the I-44 corridor.
Road conditions are expected to deteriorate overnight Tuesday through the Wednesday morning commute.
Snow showers will start to taper off by late morning or midday Wednesday. Flurries will be possible through Wednesday evening. Expect slushy roads with slick spots up to snow covered roads through much of Wednesday afternoon as road temperatures hold in the 30s.
