Tracking a system putting us in a Weather Alert Day Tuesday night into Wednesday

TONIGHT: Calm winds and clearing skies. Temperatures dropping into the low 30s for the forecast area.

TOMORROW: Partly cloudy and calm winds. Temperatures creeping up into the low 40s throughout the day.

EXTENDED: We will be under a Weather Alert Day Tuesday night into Wednesday afternoon. This is the cause of a system bringing noticeable amounts of snow our area. The heaviest bands of snow are tracking to the south of us, but if this system shifts over time, we could see higher amounts. The Weather Alert Day goes into affect at 5 PM Tuesday night, where we could experience some rain quickly shifting into snow. The Columbia area is expected to get 1-3 inches total, with Jefferson City seeing totals of 2-4 inches. The conditions surrounding this system are very favorable for accumulating snow, except for one thing. The temperatures for our area are walking a fine line in between below and above freezing. This means that our snow accumulation amounts could waiver. Even then, our main concern is travel conditions Wednesday morning through the day. We're getting a wintry mix, with the majority being snow, causing the travel setup to be slick. Also, if clouds stick around, we could see those temperatures for our area lowered. This means our amounts for accumulating snow could increase. Another main factor is if the system shifts closer to us in the north. We'll know the more specific track of this impending weather as time gets closer, so make sure to listen for constant updates from our Weather Team.
