Tracking clouds the next few days, impending winter weather late this week

TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy, lows in the upper 20s.

TOMORROW: Mostly cloudy with highs in the upper 30s.

EXTENDED: Clouds stick around Tuesday and Wednesday with low pressure exiting the area, but temperatures manage to reach the upper 30s through Wednesday afternoon. Low pressure begins to move into the region late Wednesday into Thursday, with temperatures hovering right around the freezing mark on Thursday morning. Precipitation may start off as light rain but quickly change to snow as cold air starts to move in. Snow accumulation continues through much of the afternoon with snow working its way east of our area by around sunset Thursday night. Winds pick up to about 40 mph Thursday night through Friday with temperatures tumbling below zero on Friday morning. Wind gusts will bring wind chills down between -15 and -30 degrees through much of Thursday. A Weather Alert Day will be in effect on Thursday for travel impacts as snow amounts could range between 2-5" with isolated higher amounts across northern Missouri. The Weather Alert Day will continue through Sunday morning as overnight lows will remain below zero through Sunday morning. Wind chills will hover around -20 between Friday and Saturday. We finally begin to warm back up by Monday with highs in the lower 30s.
