Tracking a round of accumulating snow Monday night

TODAY: A Weather Alert Day goes into effect Monday evening as the first snow of the season approaches. Get the latest details on that here. Ahead of this system, temperatures reach the lower 40s as clouds fill out throughout Monday.

TONIGHT: Precip has slowed slightly and will move in by 8-10 p.m. tonight. There may be brief light rain on the leading edge of this system but temperatures will quickly dive below freezing to switch precip to snow. Heaviest snowfall moves in from midnight to sunrise Tuesday.

EXTENDED: Snow will likely be light, but one or two bands of more steady snow could set up north of I-70. This is where we could end up with 2-3" by Tuesday morning. South of I-70, we can expect a trace to about 2". Snow showers will end by mid-morning Tuesday, but impacts may be felt through midday as temperatures start out around 30 and only manage to make it to the upper 30s by afternoon. We could see a few flurries with another system to our north on Wednesday, but no impacts are expected there. The rest of the week is chilly with highs in the 30s and lows falling into the teens as we get into the weekend. Looking ahead, we might end up with a slight warmup heading into Thanksgiving week.
