As of the 4:00 p.m. Advisory, Ian listed to have maximum sustained winds of 75 mph, and has strengthened yet again to a category 1 hurricane. This has increased the severity of the situation for folks up the eastern coast and has spawned new warnings from Savannah to Virginia Beach.

Hurricane Ian is a category 1 storm, and measured 155 mph winds early on Wednesday morning before weakening a bit at landfall Wednesday afternoon.

Track & Analysis

Ian has pushed out into the Atlantic Ocean as of Thursday evening, allowing the storm to regain some momentum.

Strong winds between 50-60 mph winds are expected in the Jacksonville to Savannah Thursday night into Friday, with 50 mph winds possible Friday evening from Savannah to Charlotte, North Carolina to start the weekend.

Rainfall amounts are expected to range between 10-15" with 20" amounts possible across central Florida through Friday morning. Dangerous flash flooding is likely across locations north of Cape Coral to Orlando to south of Jacksonville.

Life threatening storm surge is most likely between Sarasota and Naples where flood waters could exceed nine feet.

An increased threat of tornadoes is expected across South and North Carolina and southeastern Virgina Friday as the storm progresses northwest into coastal South Carolina tomorrow afternoon.
