Tracking a few storms, heat and humidity this weekend

TONIGHT: Partly cloudy and mild with lows in the mid-upper 60s.

TOMORROW: Mostly sunny to partly cloudy with a few storms north of I-70 early in the day. Highs in the upper 80s.

EXTENDED: I've been tracking a few spot showers with a weak disturbance rolling through, but I am not expecting disruptive rain into tonight. There could be a couple showers and/or rumbles of thunder early tomorrow morning north of I-70 through about noon, but the rest of the day is partly cloudy and hot with highs in the upper 80s to around 90. A cold front set up just to our north on Saturday could trigger another round of storms that moves in for the northern half of the area likely after midnight Saturday through Sunday morning. Humidity ramps up Sunday with highs in the lower 90s and a heat index in the upper 90s. Depending on how far the front gets, we could have a round of strong storms along the Iowa/Missouri border Sunday night into Monday morning with a couple of these potentially clipping our northern counties along and north of Highway 36 with gusty winds and heavy downpours. Rain amounts through the weekend will be around 0.25" to 0.5" for areas north of Highway 24, with trace amounts closer to I-70. Farther south, we stay dry and quite warm into Monday with morning temperatures in the lower 70s, which is more than 10 degrees above average. Monday is hot and humid with highs in the lower 90s, approaching a record high in Columbia. The current record is 94 so we'll get close to tying it or exceeding. The rest of the week is hot and humid with highs in the low to mid-90s until Thursday as a pattern shift starts to take shape. Low pressure will force a cold front through the area Thursday into Friday, dropping us back into the low 60s by Friday morning with highs in the lower 80s.
