Tracking another day of intense heat before storms return late tomorrow afternoon

TONIGHT: Mostly clear and muggy with lows in the upper 70s.

TOMORROW: Mostly sunny early with heat indices between 103-106. Scattered showers and storms moving in by late afternoon. A few storms may be severe with strong winds and heavy rain.

EXTENDED: Heat and humidity hold on through Wednesday as winds from the south push temperatures into the upper 90s once again. Dew points remain in the 70s, allowing the heat index to climb into the 104-106 degree range. A cold front moving in from the north will trigger scattered showers and thunderstorms late tomorrow afternoon, bringing brief heavy rain and gusty winds through mid-evening. Rain amounts will end up around 0.5" to 1". Storms exit Wednesday night, giving us a brief reprieve from the heat on Thursday as temperatures fall into the upper 80s for highs. Heat index values fall into the lower 90s for the northern half of the area that is behind the front. Heat returns for the end of the week into the weekend as upper high pressure builds back over the region. Highs reach the 90s Saturday and Sunday, and a disturbance may bring a few showers or storms by Sunday night. Otherwise, we can expect hotter than average temperatures to stick around into next week as the upper level pattern continues to be stubborn with high pressure overhead.
