Tracking one more day of heat before storms return Sunday afternoon
TONIGHT: Mostly clear and hot with lows falling into the upper 70s to around 80.
TOMORROW: Increasing clouds, hot and humid with highs in the upper 90s. Heat index between 103-106. Storms develop by late afternoon and could bring heavy rain and strong winds through sunset.
EXTENDED: We'll stay quite warm this evening with lows falling to around 80. Cloud cover starts to spread in tomorrow ahead of a front that will trigger storms by late tomorrow afternoon. That said, we'll still see temperatures in the upper 90s and increasing dew points, so I still expect heat indices to climb to 103-105 before storms develop. There's a level 1 severe weather risk for much of Mid-Missouri tomorrow afternoon as the cold front moves in from the north. A few storms could produce strong wind gusts between 2-8PM. After that round dissipates, we can expect another push of more widespread rain and storms to develop from west to east overnight into Monday morning. The axis of heavier rain looks to set up north of I-70, which is unfortunate because more of the severe drought is farther south. As that front slides south Monday, that keeps us in the low 80s for highs. It's expected to lift back north as a warm front Tuesday into Wednesday, triggering more afternoon storms but also warming us back into the low 90s Tuesday and Wednesday. Another cold front pushes through between Wednesday and Thursday, bringing more rain and a nice cool down as high pressure moves in from the north behind it to end the week. We'll actually be below average on temperatures to end the week, with highs in the mid-80s Friday and Saturday and lows in the mid-60s. Rain totals for the week will range between 1-2".
