Tracking a soggy Sunday, intense heat this week

TODAY: Widespread showers and storms throughout the morning and early afternoon. Heavy downpours and lightning are possible before rain exits midday. Areas east of highway 63 will see the greatest rainfall totals Sunday between 0.5"-1". Highs fall to seasonable levels in the mid to upper 80s.

TOMORROW: Mostly sunny with near-average highs in the low 90s.

EXTENDED: Monday will be a small buffer to the warmup setting in this week with highs close to triple digits again by Tuesday. The heat index at that time is threatening to reach 105+ but a midweek weak front will knock the worst of this heat off Wednesday and Thursday. Unfortunately, rain chances are extremely limited with that front and intense heat builds again late week. Highs swing back to triple digits by Friday and dry conditions look to hold through next weekend.
