Tracking a hot start to the weekend, brief cooldown tomorrow
TODAY: Mostly sunny with increasing clouds. Highs in the mid-90s with a chance for storms by the evening.
TOMORROW: Showers and storms diminish in coverage throughout the day. Highs reach the upper 80s under partly cloudy skies.
EXTENDED: A push of more widespread rain and storms ahead of a cold front will move into Mid-Missouri overnight into Sunday, bringing much-needed rain to drought-stricken areas. Rain chances last through much of Sunday, with showers pushing southeast by evening. Rain totals will end up around an inch with isolated areas seeing higher amounts. The overall severe threat is low, but if we do see any embedded strong storms it would likely be overnight on Saturday. Enjoy the break in the heat tomorrow before a quick return to brutal summer conditions next week. Monday will act as a buffer behind the cold front with highs in the lower 90s, but watch out by Tuesday. Temperatures top out near 100 and the heat index will get between 103-105. The rest of the week is dry through Friday with high temperatures ranging from 96-100.
