Tracking rain and relief for the weekend

TODAY: Decaying showers and storms will move overhead this morning, and linger into the afternoon. The added cloud cover and rainfall will keep temperatures cooler this afternoon. Temperatures likely top out in the upper 80s Friday afternoon.

TONIGHT: Late this afternoon, and into the evening, rain will dry up, and skies will clear for a pleasant sunset. Temperatures hold in the low 70s overnight. By late tonight, and early tomorrow, showers and storms may again be moving through the Kansas City area. This activity will bring us clouds, and a chance at rain and thunder through the early morning hours on Saturday.

EXTENDED: Starting with a chance for rain, Saturday will turn drier by midday as showers are expected to die down by mid-to-late morning. More thunderstorm development is possible in the afternoon, as heat and humidity builds. Expect highs in the upper 90s, with heat index values back above 100. A cold front will pass through generating thunderstorms in the late afternoon and evening. Isolated strong to severe storms are possible, with our main risk being hail, and gusty wind. The overall chance for storms is good area-wide, but not everyone may see these storms. Cooler and drier air will arrive behind the front for Sunday through Tuesday. Those days look dry, and in the low-to-mid 80s. By midweek, temperatures are climbing.
