Tracking more sunshine, cooler start to next week

TONIGHT: Gradual clearing, cooler with lows in the lower to mid-50s.

TOMORROW: Mostly sunny with highs in the upper 70s.

EXTENDED: Clouds are somewhat slow to clear tonight, so areas north of I-70 will have the best shot at viewing the lunar eclipse. It will start around 9:30 p.m. and finish before 1:00 a.m., so later viewing will likely be more ideal. Tomorrow will be the nicest day of the week as high pressure temporarily builds in, keeping our temperatures in the upper 70s with plenty of sun. Another front to our northwest will set up, pulling in warmer air with highs near 80 on Tuesday and will bring the potential of storms by late evening into Wednesday morning. Right now, the Storm Prediction Center has us in a level 1/5 for that threat, but if we do see any severe weather it would likely be wind/hail once again. We'll get a better handle on data tonight and tomorrow and decide if a Weather Alert Day will be necessary. An active pattern sets up for the entire week with a southwesterly oriented jet stream pulling in warmer air and allowing a series of disturbances to work through. By Thursday and Friday, temperatures reach the upper 80s once again before our next cold front arrives, and we could see another round of robust storms Friday afternoon into Friday night. These could end up being on the stronger side given ingredients forecast to be present, but with so much time for things to shift we'll have to keep monitoring it. We'll be cooler in response to that front passing through next weekend, with highs in the lower 70s and lows in the 50s. The last chunk of May still continues to signal toward an active jet stream with slightly above average temperatures.
