Tracking a potential fourth day of record-breaking heat
TONIGHT: Mostly clear, mild, and muggy with lows in the lower 70s.
TOMORROW: Mostly sunny and hot with highs in the low to mid-90s. Heat index in the upper 90s.
EXTENDED: Another muggy evening is in store with lows in the lower 70s. Tomorrow's record of 93 degrees will also be in jeopardy with a forecast of 94 thanks to a sunny afternoon with a south breeze. Heat indices reach the upper 90s. A cold front to our west will start slowly working its way in on Friday, bringing a chance for showers and storms, especially by afternoon. The caveat will be the presence of an atmospheric cap or temperature inversion that could limit storms from developing. If that "cap" breaks along the front, some of the storms may produce large hail and isolated damaging winds given the amount of instability present. We'll hold off on issuing a Weather Alert Day for now, but that could be coming down the pike by tomorrow if we have more certainty around the cap breaking. The front works its way through on Saturday, bringing temperatures back down into the lower 80s. South of the front, there will be a chance of scattered showers and a few storms, but the day is looking drier than Friday. Sunday will cool off even more in the wake of the front with highs in the upper 70s to around 80 along with lower humidity. The upper level pattern will keep temperatures more seasonable next week, but also bring the chance for off and on rain just about each day as the jet stream sends several disturbances our way. Rain amounts over the weekend will range between 0.5" to about 0.75."
