Tracking showers and storms tonight into Friday

TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy and breezy with scattered showers and storms, especially before midnight. Lows in the mid-50s.

TOMORROW: Rain and storms early, becoming dry and warmer in the afternoon. Highs in the lower 70s.

EXTENDED: Scattered showers continue to roll across the area this afternoon, but no severe weather is expected with embedded storms into tonight. Another push of rain and storms will pick back up before sunrise, making for a wet Friday morning. We'll clear that out around or before noon, allowing temperatures to warm back up with gusty south winds into Friday afternoon. Most of Friday afternoon and evening is dry with highs reaching the lower 70s. Showers and storms will develop to our west across Kansas ahead of a cold front that will move across Mid-Missouri late Friday night into Saturday morning, and some storms could be severe along the Missouri-Kansas border late Friday night. Currently, I'm expecting showers and storms to be on a weakening trend as they enter Mid-Missouri likely after midnight, but a few storms could be strong with isolated wind gusts and heavy rain. The Storm Prediction center has areas west of Highway 63 in a level 1 or marginal risk for severe weather for this time frame. By mid-morning Saturday, the cold front will be moving east of our area, taking the chances for storms with it. We'll be left with some clouds and a sprinkle or two, but generally a dry Saturday afternoon. We manage to reach the low to mid-70s as skies begin to clear a bit. Sunday looks like the nicest day of the weekend with dry skies and highs in the upper 60s to around 70. Low pressure to our southwest will send more rain and a few storms into Mid-Missouri by Monday, with rain continuing into early Tuesday morning. We'll get a break for Tuesday with temperatures rebounding to near 70 by afternoon, but rain and storms return on Wednesday. Behind that system, we'll end the week on a cooler note with about a 10 degree drop in temperatures Thursday. Cumulative rain amounts over the next week will be in the 2-3" range.
