Tracking rain and a warmer air mass for the week ahead

TODAY:

Tuesday morning will start with clear skies, and temperatures below freezing. A Freeze Warning remains in effect through 9 a.m. Once the sun comes up, those clear skies work to our advantage through about noon, when we start to pick more clouds. These clouds will precede a southerly wind shift and chances for rain this afternoon. South winds help push our highs into the middle and upper 50s, with 60s likely south of the lake.

TONIGHT:

With a lot of dry air for these showers to fall through initially, we may see onset of meaningful rain until the dinner hour, but some may see light showers as early as 3p.m. Temperatures hang in the mid 40s overnight, with clouds and off and on rain all night.

EXTENDED:

By Wednesday morning, rain becomes more widespread and persistent. A few rumbles of thunder become possible throughout the morning. Rain will begin to lull into the afternoon as the cluster pushes east. Still to the west, a cold front will begin to push southeast through Kansas City and western Missouri, where ingredients for strong to severe storms will be present. This will likely generate a few of these through southeast Kansas, and western Missouri. The severe threat appears to drop dramatically on this side of Warrensburg. Beyond Wednesday, this same cold front, will lift north on Thursday as a warm front, bringing sporadic chances for showers and storms. This chance appears to wane on Friday as the boundary pushes further north. During this time, temperatures increase nearly 10 degrees each day, before the associated cold front pushes back through Saturday night. After 60s on Wednesday, we're in the 70s Thursday, and near 80 both Friday and Saturday.
