Tracking a warm and windy Tuesday before storms arrive

TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy with showers exiting before midnight. Lows in the upper 40s.

TUESDAY: Morning clouds with a spot shower possible. Becoming mostly sunny and windy with highs in the lower 80s.

EXTENDED: A Weather Alert Day will go into effect late tomorrow night through 5:00 p.m. Wednesday. A significant, multi-day severe weather outbreak is possible across the Midwest and Ohio Valley over the next two days. There will be some conditional factors that may limit storm development, so we will be on the lookout for that. However, ingredients are in place for storms that could produce large hail in excess of 1" diameter, 60+ mph winds, and a few tornadoes. The highest risk for storms will be across far western Missouri Tuesday night, and across eastern Missouri on Wednesday. Right now the timing may work in our favor with storms beginning to weaken ahead of the cold front late Tuesday night. However, if the front stalls or slows down on Wednesday morning, that could be quite problematic for us here in Mid-Missouri with severe storms likely on Wednesday. The timing to be watching will be early Wednesday morning through about 3:00 p.m. The Storm Prediction Center has Mid-Missouri in a level 2/5 or slight risk for Tuesday (largely for any late night storms ahead of the front), and a level 2 for areas west of Highway 63, and level 3 for east of that corridor on Wednesday. Once the front passes, temperatures drop into the lower 40s by early Wednesday evening. It's a cold night with lows in the upper 30s on Thursday morning. The rest of the week is looking tame and cooler with highs in the lower 60s Thursday and Friday, with a few showers possible on Friday. Rain and a few rumbles of thunder are possible on Easter Sunday, but no severe weather is expected at this time with highs in the upper 50s.
