Tracking a few strong storms this evening, cooler end to the week

TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy with scattered storms early. Some storms may be strong through about 10:00 p.m. Isolated strong wind gusts and 1" hail are possible. Showers continue overnight, clearing out around sunrise.

TOMORROW: Decreasing clouds with temperatures dropping into the upper 50s to around 60 for highs.

EXTENDED: Skies have cleared after a few showers worked through Mid-Missouri this morning, allowing sunshine to destabilize the atmosphere through early evening. A cold front working in from the west will trigger isolated thunderstorms by early evening with the potential of strong winds and heavy rain. The tornado threat will be low, but we'll be keeping an eye out for a rotating storm or two given the marginal amount of wind shear. The threat for any strong storms will decrease after about 10 p.m. as storms move east. Light to moderate rain showers will continue overnight, but diminish by sunrise. We'll still make the upper 50s to low 60s for highs, but another weak front associated with low pressure across the Great Lakes will bring a big cool down for Thursday. We'll add more clouds and drop temperatures into the upper 40s to around 50 for Thursday, and there could be a couple of spotty showers during the day. Friday will bring some more sunshine, but temperatures still remain in the upper 40s. Thursday and Friday nights could bring frost or even a hard freeze, so sensitive plants will need to be covered. Temperatures bounce back over the weekend into the upper 50s on Saturday and back into the lower 70s on Sunday. Next week looks more active with showers possible again by Monday and highs in the low to mid-70s.
