Tracking unseasonably warm temperatures Wednesday
TONIGHT: Mostly clear and chilly with lows in the upper 30s.
TOMORROW: Mostly sunny and less breezy with highs in the upper 70s to near 80 degrees.
EXTENDED: Winds die down tonight, allowing us to drop into the mid-upper 30s overnight. Tomorrow is the warmest day of the week as we'll be right under upper high pressure with southwest winds getting us into the upper 70s to near 80 degrees. For reference, our average high is 50 for this time in March. A weak cold front drops in from the north Wednesday night into Thursday, but no precipitation is expected. That will drop us back into the upper 50s on Thursday. Clouds increase ahead of a warm front on Friday as temperatures rise back into the low to mid-60s. Rain holds off until Friday night ahead of a cold front that is expected to move across the Midwest on Saturday. Ahead of the front, temperatures reach near 70 again on Thursday afternoon. Depending on the speed of the front, we could see showers and a few thunderstorms develop Saturday into Saturday afternoon, with the front settling just southeast of us Saturday night. The most favorable area for any severe storms looks to be just to our north on Saturday across far northern Missouri and southern Iowa, and just south of us on Sunday. We'll keep a close eye on that potential as shifts in the system could bring more rain and storms over our area, especially if the front stalls a bit farther north on Sunday. Temperatures behind the front drop into the mid-40s on Monday with about 0.5" to 1" of rain possible over the weekend.
