Tracking a big cool down for the weekend

TONIGHT: Mostly clear and cold with gusty winds up to 25 mph from the northwest. Lows in the mid-teens with wind chills just above zero.

TOMORROW: Mostly sunny and cold with highs in the mid-upper 20s. Wind chills in the teens.

EXTENDED: As skies clear overnight, temperatures plunge into the teens overnight. Wind chills will fall to just a few degrees above zero for the morning, and stay in the low teens during the day. Highs reach the upper 20s with plenty of sunshine, but clouds roll in late Saturday night into Sunday AM ahead of a weak clipper system that will keep our temperatures near freezing during the day. The best chance of light snow will stay to our northeast along the Mississippi River. Next week looks interesting with a mild start on Monday, but it really feels like spring by Tuesday and Wednesday with temps getting to near 60 with gusty winds. A strong low pressure system moves in our direction Wednesday into Thursday, bringing steady rain and perhaps a thunderstorm or two, depending on the timing and location of the low. We could end up with 1-2" of rain by Thursday night, and it could possibly end as wet snow again depending on the position of low pressure. However, winter impacts appear low at this time given borderline temperatures and the pace of precipitation. Behind this, we drop back into the 30s to around 40 by Friday.
