Tracking scattered storms Tuesday, brief cool down
TONIGHT: Mostly clear and mild with lows near 70.
TOMORROW: Partly sunny and breezy with highs in the upper 80s. Showers and thunderstorms possible by afternoon through the evening. A few storms could bring heavy downpours and gusty winds.
EXTENDED: Temperatures tonight remain mild, about 10 degrees warmer than average. Tomorrow starts out quiet but with a few more clouds early on as a cold front tries to move in from the north. Temperatures reach the upper 80s before the front gets more active by late afternoon/evening. Scattered showers and storms will pick up in coverage by late afternoon and will drift north to south as the boundary slowly works south Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Storms will bring the potential for heavy down pours, strong wind gusts, and frequent lightning. The Storm Prediction Center has most of Mid-Missouri in a marginal risk for severe weather, so we'll be looking for a localized wind or hail threat in a few of those storms. The severe threat will greatly diminish as the sun goes down, but a few showers and storms will be possible through Wednesday morning, especially for the southern half of the area. Once the front clears us to the south, highs only make the lower 80s on Wednesday. We gradually begin warming back up Thursday into the weekend with southwest upper level flow. Unfortunately that will likely send more smoke to our skies once again. Temperatures rise to near 90 through the weekend into early next week.
