Tracking showers today and a cooler start to the workweek

TODAY: Chances for isolated showers all day, with the most activity picking up late afternoon and early evening. Highs in the low 90s with a heat index a couple degrees warmer. No severe storms are expected but there could be isolated downpours and high winds.

TOMORROW: A cold front will waver near the area to kick off the workweek, continuing our rain chances and finally pushing temperatures down a bit. Highs will reach the upper 80s with a heat index in the low 90s. More scattered showers are likely through the day with a more robust round of storms in the afternoon.

EXTENDED: Storms last through Tuesday as the cold front is hesitant to leave and the remnants of Hurricane Ida funnel more moisture in. Rain finally exits by Wednesday with sunnier skies and cooler temperatures following. Highs will dip to the mid-80s midweek as high pressure moves in and we head into next weekend seasonal and dry just below 90 degrees.

TROPICAL UPDATE: Hurricane Ida is now at Category 4 strength and will bring life-threatening storm surge, heavy rain and destructive winds to the southern coast as it makes landfall this evening. Some areas, many of them near or below sea level, will receive up to 15 inches of rain over the next couple of days.
